Wing Chun's Characteristics

Strong Structure

Wing Chun emphasizes on building a solid structure to achieve maximum intrinsic strength with minimum effort. This structure is built by performing a high and narrow stance, tucking the hips, pinching the knees, and positioning elbows close to the body. By adopting this stance, all body parts are deeply connected.

Centerline Control

Wing Chun focuses on protecting and attacking the centerline which has a lot of vitals such as throat, solar plexus, and groin. Wing Chun prefers to control or destroy the enemy’s balance by constantly pressuring or hitting toward his or her centerline in fighting.

Close Fighting

Wing Chun techniques are mostly small range motions because this system is developed for dealing with the problems in close quarter. Chi Sau, which means sticking hands, emphasizes on offense and defense in a touching situation. It is the main drill in Wing Chun system, which is suitable for dealing with conflicts in crowded urban areas.

Adaptability

Wing Chun techniques are concise and direct. Most of the moves are in small range, and Wing Chun training focuses on building a strong structure and utilizing body mechanics instead of power and speed. Practitioners don’t need to be strong, fast, and flexible. Therefore, Wing Chun is adaptable and suitable for people of all ages, sizes, shapes and physical ability.
